The Conco Companies recently completed all structural concrete renovations for the LA Memorial Coliseum Renovation Project. Conco’s services included finishing, formwork, pumping, and shotcrete.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum underwent the largest renovation in its 100-year history. Newly named, United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the $315 million makeover will host the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans, LA Rams football teams and prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Conco Companies placed approximately 24,000 cubic yards of concrete, including mat foundations, slab over metal decks, structural decks, shotcrete and new concrete seating in a large portion of the stadium bowl.
The whole north and south concrete seating bowl was replaced in order to add wider seats, more legroom, and extra aisles. Additionally, an eight-story structure was built to house new press boxes and luxury suites. A specially designed concrete mix was poured to protect reinforcing. This was necessary due to the concrete exposure to the environment. Concrete Admixtures were used for corrosion inhibitors and waterproofing.
Like every high-profile project, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum presented its own challenges. Conco’s planning and execution skills were tested by some of these challenges, such as:
- Swiftly installing high quality, unique formwork systems with tight radius and slope seating.
- Rigorous schedules to perform the work without impacting the 2018-2019 football season of both USC Trojans and LA Rams.
The Conco Companies was selected based on our vast stadium experience and multiple concrete services. Conco successfully completed the job on schedule and meeting the client’s expectations.
