As one of the newest multi-use developments in Los Angeles, Hollywood Park promises to bring a variety of world-class amenities to a 300-acre campus in the Inglewood neighborhood. In addition to the new open-air LA Stadium that will be home to the Rams and the Chargers, Hollywood Park features residential towers, hotels, 500,000 square feet of retail space, restaurants, a 6,000 seat concert venue, and public parks. The most recent addition to the fast-growing district is the NFL Media Building. Construction on this eight-story high rise tower commenced in the summer of 2019 and will include a connected two-story studio support facility and an adjacent studio structure to become the headquarters of the West Coast NFL Operations and Media.

At a total of 434,000 square feet, the NFL Media Building is a massive project with a fast construction timeline. General contractors Pankow Builders selected the Conco Companies to provide commercial concrete contractor services because the project requires a large amount of quality concrete finishing on a very accelerated schedule. For their part, Conco is providing concrete finishing and concrete pumping and is expected to complete their work in September 2020.

The Grand is a massive project over a dozen years in the making and broke ground in May 2019 in the Bunker Hill area of downtown Los Angeles. The mixed-use development will feature a 39 story residential tower and a 20 story Equinox Hotel connected by a courtyard, as well as a 176,000 square feet of retail space with shops, restaurants, and a movie theater complex. The Grand project is a public-private partnership under the helm of developer Related Companies and designed by architect Frank Gehry, who also designed the adjacent Disney Music Hall. Gehry aimed for the structures to complement each other, incorporating similar materials such as metallic cladding into the towers’ design. The residential tower will have over 400 units with over 80 units set aside for low-income residents, while the Equinox hotel boasts 309 guest rooms.

For their part in The Grand development, the Conco Companies will be providing structural concrete forming, placement and finishing, concrete pumping services, and shotcrete services.

After years of anticipation for the commencement of construction, the project has a fast schedule and requires three significant mat pours for a combined 25,500 cubic yards of concrete. As a result, Conco was contracted to deliver their concrete services due to their reputation for keeping large-scale projects such as The Grand on time and on budget.

Update:

As of June 2020, Conco is forming the structural decks on Level 14 on Tower 2 and Level 12 on Tower 1. Total concrete poured is currently at 83,201 cubic yards for the foundations, structural slabs, columns and walls, and shotcrete.  With a project peak point of 220 on-site employees and over 364,000 man-hours worked, The Conco Companies is using two pump stations and five concrete placing booms to complete the project.

Cumulus-Tower-Project-The-Conco-Companies.jpg

On July 14th, Conco successfully completed over 40,000 square feet of finished slab work for the Cumulus Tower after pouring over 8,000 cubic yards of concrete for the project. This large scale project was first proposed in 2015 and architectural firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz, known for its long history in the residential market, designed this 30-story residential tower. Cumulus Tower will be the first tower in this part of the city and will be a cornerstone feature of a larger complex that will also include open spaces, offices, and 100,000 square feet of retail. This exciting new development seeks to promote public transit as it provides more housing and retail stores next to the new metro rail stations.

Conco was chosen for this large project based on its reputation as the best value and commitment to providing exceptional outcomes on schedule. This experience was particularly important for the Cumulus Tower as the project requires a fast schedule that started in June 2018 and will wrap up twelve months later. During this timeframe, Conco is providing structural concrete forming, structural concrete placement and finishing, pumping, and structural shotcrete services for the project.
