Downtown Denver is slated to receive two new high-end multi-family residential buildings in the Healthcare District with construction beginning in July 2019. The Broadstone Uptown project will feature two nine-story structures with studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments as well as below-grade parking for each building. Designed by Shear Adkins Rockmore Architects, the nearly identical buildings will sit adjacent to each other on the corner of 18th and Marion Streets and will bring much needed residential units to the growing city.

The Conco Companies worked closely with the development teams for over a year during the planning phase of the Broadstone Uptown project and has been contracted to provide a range of concrete services for the two structures beginning in July 2019. The scope of work for Conco’s turnkey structural concrete services include mat slab foundations, slab on grade, shotcrete foundation walls, cast-in-place columns, elevator and stair core walls in two locations in each building, elevated post-tensioned structural slabs and Epicore topping slabs for the cast-in-place rooftop slabs. Conco will be partnering with a local subcontractor to provide concrete pumping and placing, reinforcing, formwork, and finishing as well as construction trucking.

The Grand is a massive project over a dozen years in the making and broke ground in May 2019 in the Bunker Hill area of downtown Los Angeles. The mixed-use development will feature a 39 story residential tower and a 20 story Equinox Hotel connected by a courtyard, as well as a 176,000 square feet of retail space with shops, restaurants, and a movie theater complex. The Grand project is a public-private partnership under the helm of developer Related Companies and designed by architect Frank Gehry, who also designed the adjacent Disney Music Hall. Gehry aimed for the structures to complement each other, incorporating similar materials such as metallic cladding into the towers’ design. The residential tower will have over 400 units with over 80 units set aside for low-income residents, while the Equinox hotel boasts 309 guest rooms.

For their part in The Grand development, the Conco Companies will be providing structural concrete forming, placement and finishing, concrete pumping services, and shotcrete services.

After years of anticipation for the commencement of construction, the project has a fast schedule and requires three significant mat pours for a combined 25,500 cubic yards of concrete. As a result, Conco was contracted to deliver their concrete services due to their reputation for keeping large-scale projects such as The Grand on time and on budget.

Update:

As of June 2020, Conco is forming the structural decks on Level 14 on Tower 2 and Level 12 on Tower 1. Total concrete poured is currently at 83,201 cubic yards for the foundations, structural slabs, columns and walls, and shotcrete.  With a project peak point of 220 on-site employees and over 364,000 man-hours worked, The Conco Companies is using two pump stations and five concrete placing booms to complete the project.

The Conco Companies is returning to Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) Airport once again teaming up with Clark Construction. Conco’s Northwest division will provide concrete services to build the 450,000 sq. ft. International Arrivals Facility (IAF) building on the east side of the South Terminal Expansion (Concourse A). The new Arrivals facility will help the airport manage the increasing demand for international flights. The project also includes a 900 ft long aerial passing bridge over the existing taxi lane at a height of 85 feet (allowing planes to travel beneath) to connect arriving international passengers at the south satellite terminal to the top of Concourse A and the new space.

The aerial bridge components will be prefabricated off-site and installed within a seven-day time frame. The construction activities are taking place in an active area of the airport, requiring an additional level of coordination – and patience – for all involved. Upcoming project milestones include (all scheduled to be complete by the end of February):

  • PW-1 Concourse A Concrete Core Bridge Support Completion
  • IAF Slab on Grade Completion
  • PW-4 South Satellite Concrete Core Bridge Support Completion
