The Conco Companies - Eric King with Swinerton Team

The LA Business Journal‘s Commercial Real Estate Awards recently recognized two of The Conco Companies projects as “Gold Winners” in the categories for Best Sustainable Project and Best Multi-family Project. The entire Conco team is proud to have had the opportunity to provide high-quality concrete services for these smartly designed, award-winning projects.

Both of the distinguished projects are prime examples of our industry’s commitment to sustainability and will serve our communities for many years to come. We wish to congratulate the projects’ owners and developers, architects, and general contractors on the awards. Additionally Conco extends a special thanks to Swinerton Builders, Clark Construction, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, and Handel Architects who made these projects possible and for selecting Conco to provide concrete services for these projects.

Gold Winner: Best Sustainable Project

Federal Court House Project - Gold Award

The LA Federal Courthouse won the Gold Award in the category for Best Sustainable Project. Referred to as “The Cube,” the 11-story, 631,000 sq. ft. courthouse was designed and built to earn LEED Platinum certification. The new building is equipped with high efficiency systems including a 1,200-ton central utility plant with a 130-ton heat recovery chiller and a 250 KW roof-mounted photovoltaic array of solar panels. In addition the courthouse features a large skylight that offers natural light and exterior “pleats” to maximize daylight penetration and minimize solar thermal gains.

Gold Winner: Best Multi-family Project

Ten Thousand Project - Gold Award

The Ten Thousand Apartment Tower won the Gold Award for the Best Multi-family Project. The 40-story, luxury residential tower has already become an iconic architectural landmark in the L.A. skyline with its uniquely angled rooftop and angular, glass sheathed façade. Composed of four crystalline quadrants, the façade’s multiple panes of glass are slightly angled away from one another to refract sunlight during the day and transform the tower into an illuminated beacon at night. The tower received LEED Gold certification and offers an on-site garage and 75,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor amenities.

We are honored to be recipients of the LA Business Journal‘s Commercial Real Estate Awards and wholeheartedly thank the construction community for the continuous support and trust they have placed in The Conco Companies. Finally we wish to congratulate our LA Federal Courthouse and Ten Thousand Apartment Tower teams for their hard work and commitment to these projects. These awards are for all of you – Great job!

San Diego Airport - Conco Companies

One of the many projects The Conco Companies is involved with in the San Diego area is the Terminal 2 Parking Plaza for the San Diego International Airport. The $128 million parking structure will have three floors and offers approximately 3,000 parking stalls that will be within walking distance of Terminal 2. The project broke ground in September 2016 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2018.

The new parking plaza, which will replace the existing surface parking lot, is being built up (3 floors) due to the small footprint of the airport. The architect on the project is Watry Design, a San Jose-based firm with a portfolio that includes designing 1,000 parking garages throughout the Western U.S. The general contractor for the project is Swinerton Builders. Conco’s extensive concrete services will include 30 plus M58 pours.

The new garage will be the first in San Diego Country to be outfitted with high-tech sensors that allow visitors to reserve and pay for a parking spot in advance through their smart phone. At the entrance of the parking structure, you will put in an access code and the app will guide you to a space and help you to find your car once you return.

Another challenging project for Conco pumping is the Hedionda Lift Station for the City of Carlsbad. Pulice Construction, Inc. is the general contractor and this is the first time in many years that Conco has had the opportunity to work with the company on a water project. Along with the 33 MGD wastewater lift station, improvements include the installation of approximately two miles of new sewer pipeline.

We are proud to report that a few years after The Conco Companies expanded our pumping services in the San Diego area; we have experienced a rapid growth in business. Moreover we attribute much of our San Diego success to the hiring of Eric Brogren, who brings to Conco more than 25 years of experience in the area’s construction industry.

Eric started his career as a pump operator and went on to spend the last several years in pumping sales for the San Diego market. Since bringing Eric on board in February of 2014, Conco has opened a permanent yard in Escondido that houses our fleet of concrete pumps and operators and we are expanding operations.  With the addition of several new pumping contracts already on our schedule for 2017, we are increasing our resources to ensure optimal services to meet the needs of our customers.

One of our new projects includes the Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project which will extend Trolley service from the Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego to the University City community. The light rail project is being constructed by the Mid-Coast Transit Constructors (MCTC), which is a fully integrated joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Herzog and Skanska. The group was awarded a $921.8 million construction manager/general contractor contract from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Conco Pumping is providing concrete pumping services under the direction of Malcolm Drilling, Condon-Johnson and Skanska.

The Mid-Coast Trolley will serve major activity centers such as Old Town, the University of California San Diego (UCSD), and Westfield UTC and is intended to improve travel options for residents, commuters, and visitors to jobs, schools, and our medical and retail centers. The project is expected to be completed in 2021.

At The Conco Companies, we are one of the leading concrete contractors in the Western U.S. and offer a wide range of quality services and products. Our experience includes providing services for commercial, educational, parking and other construction development as well as public works projects. The app is simple to download and use, and organizes our concrete pump and Telebelt inventory by regions (Washington, Northern California, and Southern California). It allows you to access information on each of our pumps including make and model as well as comprehensive details such as vertical and horizontal reach of the pump. We also have the pumps’ specifications listed so you can get an idea of what your project needs.

The Conco Companies are one of the foremost suppliers of concrete services for the Western U.S. We got our start in 1959 in the Bay Area by offering clients the best value on a broad range of concrete services and products. Since that time, we have taken a leading role as top concrete contractors in the region. We have four regional offices serving California, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado and Washington.

Another new project for The Conco Companies is providing concrete pumps for the Miramar Water Treatment Plant in the City of San Diego. The Miramar Water Treatment Plant was originally constructed in 1962 and provides drinking water to an estimated 500,000 customers in the northern section of San Diego. The approximately $89 million project was started in June 2016 and is expected to be completed by May 2020.

Shimmick is the general contractor for the Miramar Clearwell Improvement Project, which is located on the plant site and includes multiple scopes of work such as the replacement of the Clearwells #1 and #2 built in 1959 and 1974 respectively. The clearwells provide storage of treated water prior to distribution into the potable water supply system. The project started with the demolition of the existing clearwells and the associated piping and facilities, and includes the construction of new clearwells and piping, etc. The plant says the new clearwells will increase their storage capacity by approximately 58 million gallons.

The project also includes a new Chlorine Contact Chamber and an adjoining lift station as well as a new maintenance and operation building and a security guard shack. There will also be other upgrades to the site. Conco’s duties entail providing concrete pumping services for the project.

The Miramar Clearwell Improvements Project is considered to be a critical infrastructure improvement for the City of San Diego and will help to maintain a safe and reliable water supply to the community. Conco is proud to bring our expertise to such an important project. Please visit the project page on our website to see a portfolio of many of our other projects throughout the Western United States.

Conco’s mission is to be the best supplier of concrete services in the Western United States and to bring expertise, experience and quality to each project.
