Conco Pumping was called when Vance Corporation’s usual pump supplier declined the project declaring the low slump, low cement, high fly flash 1-1/2” aggregate mix unpumpable.

The foundation for the Crafton Hills Reservoir Enlargement was not suitable and after drilling and grouting Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and in some cases Quaternary pile curtains, it was decided that the top 10’ of the foundation needed some other means of sealing. We used a Vermeer Rock Wheel to cut a 2’ wide x 10’ deep Cut-Off Wall which had to be continuously poured with around 900 yards of the low cement content mix so it would not cure too fast and develop any shrinkage cracks. The Abutments on either end rose up to 90’ on a 1:1 slope.

WHAT IS THE HireLAX PROGRAM?

The HireLAX Program provides local residents access to enroll in a comprehensive, construction apprenticeship preparation program offered by select public agencies or community partners. Upon completion, program graduates are competitively positioned for placement consideration on a LAWA construction project through its contractors and local craft unions. Veterans and women are strongly encouraged to participate in the program.

No on building code propsoal G108 - The Conco Companies

The International Code Council will soon vote on proposed code changes that among other things, would allow tall wood buildings to be built up to 18 stories, despite a lack of rigorous scientific or in-the field fire and structural testing.

Why should these TALL WOOD proposals for mass timber construction be stopped?

UNTESTED:  Wood-industry funded tests performed in the U.S. and Canada were completely inadequate, failing to examine real-world structural risk factors, potential firefighting safety impacts from weather, and material-related risk factors to public health and safety.

UNPROVEN:  While non-combustible concrete and steel have been used for centuries to build tall buildings and structures, mass timber products, like cross-laminated timber, are unknown and unproven construction materials.  View the Scientific Rebuttal below or download the PDF here.

UNSOUND:  Common sense knows, and history shows, that TALL WOOD buildings are high-risk and dangerous to public health and safety when it comes to natural and manmade disasters like hurricanes and wildfires.

Conco is providing a wide range of concrete services for The Asher, a 900,000 sq. ft. multi-family development.  This includes concrete pumping, reinforcement, formwork, finishing, construction trucking as well as shotcrete services. Conco is pleased to be working with project developer Carmel Partners. The engineer, CKC Structural Engineers, was also recently recognized with the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute 2018 Honors Design and Construction Award for Tower 12 in Seattle.  The Asher, situated on a 12.6 acre site, is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

The two, four-story buildings of The Asher will have a total of 632 open floor plan units in Fremont, CA. The wrapped style buildings will feature private patios and balconies with glass or custom wood railings in all units. Each building will also be paired with an above-grade parking structure, totaling 480,000 sq. ft. and 1,200 parking spaces. The South Garage will also feature an 18,000 sq. ft. roof deck on the sixth level, including a pool, bowling alley, and fitness room. The project’s unique shape and orientations includes several landscaped courtyards, effectively creating spaces for smaller communities within the larger development.

The long spans needed in the spacious amenity areas were accommodated by utilizing a concrete post-tensioned slab which was integrated into the light frame structure. This maximized flexibility of the space by minimizing the internal columns needed. The site also had soil issues which were ultimately solved using a shallow foundation system below the parking structure and a post-tension foundation below the residential structure. The two structures have significantly different weights and so it was necessary to balance these foundation systems to minimize differential settlement.

Conco’s goal is to be the top supplier of concrete services in the Western U.S. and to bring our expertise and professionalism to each project.  We continue to upgrade and expand our facilities to better serve the growing market for commercial, industrial, educational, parking structure projects and other development. For the best value and quality, trust your project to one of the area’s leading lightweight concrete contractors.

1314 Franklin Update - The Conco Companies

The Conco Companies is providing a full range of concrete services on 1314 Franklin Street. Developed by Carmel Partners, this will be Oakland’s largest residential building ever. For Conco, this project includes concrete pumping, formwork, and finishing as well as construction trucking and shotcrete services.

The 40-story building will be on top of a seven-floor podium totaling 633 residential units and about 17,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Situated across from the historic Oakland Tribune building, Carmel Partners will be giving local businesses a first look at the building’s retail space, and provide between 27 and 54 affordable housing for the project.  The unit mix for the residential tower is a single studio apartment, approximately 66% one-bedroom, and 34% two-bedroom units. The unit mix for the residential podium is approximately 9% student, 64% one-bedroom and 27% two-bedroom units.

The tower and podium will sit on a five-story parking garage with two stories below grade. The 404 foot tall residential tower will contain approximately 789,355 sq. ft. gross area with primary frontage and entry along Franklin and 14th streets. The fourth level rooftop above the parking structure contains a landscaped area, outdoor pool, and associated interior amenity spaces for residents. Level 40 contains interior amenity spaces and exterior landscaped terrace. The rooftop amenity spaces have direct access via a shuttle elevator from level 40 to the rooftop deck amenity area where there will also be a pool.

The space currently is a replacing a two-story parking garage, which has been there for decades, but was once the site of Contra Costa Academy. Founded by Henry Durant, the 16th mayor of Oakland, the academy later became the College of California before it was relocated to Berkeley and became the University of California. A historic marker at the garage will be relocated to the new building when it is completed.

The Conco Companies’ mission is to be the best supplier of concrete services in the Western U.S. and to bring expertise and incomparable quality to each project. We continue to upgrade and expand our facilities to better serve the growing market for commercial, educational, parking structures, public works projects, and other development.
